Billy Bradshaw is just a boy of twelve when a well-meaning juvenile court judge sentences him to community service at the Liberty Street Home for the Elderly and Infirm. Thrown to the care of six aging Bohemians, Billy’s summer takes an unexpected turn when a new administrator arrives at Liberty Street with plans to rid himself of the troublesome denizens of Hall B. Billy takes on the task of saving the home the Bohemians have created. However, he does not face the challenge alone. Aided by Cassidy, the administrator’s alluring and eccentric daughter, Billy embarks on a journey through the dark, seedy New Orleans underground, hoping together they can save his friends. But as Billy embarks on the journey to adulthood, he is not prepared for the twists and turns the summer will bring. Faced with tragedy, Billy must decide if he can bring himself to face life and learn what it means to love someone.
